Summer Solstice Ride

The first day of summer was officially yesterday, but it’s been summer in Austin for quite a while now.  In celebration, a bike ride was hosted.  After we rode around the east side for a while, with the requisite stop at a park to drink, we headed to Scoot-Inn for free skee ball, slip-n-slide, and kiddie pools.

Bike Month Closing Party

Bike month officially ended when May did, but for some reason the closing party was this Sunday.  It was HOT.  Probably the first day this year where I’ve thought, oh yeah this is Austin in the summer.  I met some friends down there and proceeded to sweat for several hours.  It was a good time though.  Lots of tents were set up with local bike shops and orgs giving out free shit.  There were kegs of free real ale for all and thundercloud sandwiches.  Several bands played, the highlight of which was Minor Mishap Marching Band.

Free Coffee Ride

Saturday I met up with my friend Spike at Whole Foods for some vegan donuts. Who knew they would be so delicious? Then we biked over to Lift Cafe for free coffee and a group ride. We biked east down by Lady Bird Lake and then up to the capitol before ending at the farmer’s market. The weather was absolutely amazing.

Bike Hugger Social Ride

Bike Hugger put on a social ride Saturday afternoon and enlisted the help of our Thursday Social Ride crew to make sure it went down right. The weather was amazing and the turnout was huge.  I missed the start but caught up with my friends shortly after.  After the leisurely cruise around town we ended up at Mellow Johnnys for the after party.  Free kegs & tons of bike schwag awaited us.  I snagged a sweet cog keychain and a beanie that fits under my helmet.  I love you sxsw and your free shit.
