El Naranjo Mobile
Saturday after spending most of my afternoon at the Bike Summit, Lauren and I ventured down to Rainey Street for some trailer grub at El Naranjo Mobile. One of the newer food trailers in Austin, it’s run a by a well respected chef from Oaxaca, Ilana de la Vega.
The menu has Oaxacan standards like molotes along with tacos, tostadas and daily specials. The appetizer menu listed the “Best guacamole ever” so of course we had to try it. We also ordered cochinita pibil tostadas and the special, puerco gringo tacos.

Best guac ever? I dunno, but it was pretty damn delicious. The cochinita pibil was different from other versions I’ve had but it was also quite tasty. The star of the show was the gringo tacos. The chile mixture that the pork was marinated in was amazing and the chunks of grilled pinapple worked perfectly with it. It’s a tad more expensive than your average taco truck, but it was worth it.

Fran’s Hamburgers
After all the biking and running Saturday I wanted some greasy goodness. I biked up South Congress to Fran’s, an old school drive-in hamburger stand. The inside is decorated with hubcaps and road memorabilia.
I ordered a cheeseburger and some onion rings. The burger came dressed with lettuce, pickle, tomato, onion. The only condiment on it was mustard. Mustard?! What is this Serbia? Everybody knows cheeseburgers come with mayo. I should have read the menu better, but I’ll know next time. Yes, there will be a next time. That was one tasty burger and the onion rings are the best I’ve had in Austin.

Free Coffee Ride
Saturday I met up with my friend Spike at Whole Foods for some vegan donuts. Who knew they would be so delicious? Then we biked over to Lift Cafe for free coffee and a group ride. We biked east down by Lady Bird Lake and then up to the capitol before ending at the farmer’s market. The weather was absolutely amazing.
